I have bought lots of disposable sprayers that fall apart within days of purchase.  This type has been the most handy and dependable for me.  I have looked at them before, but figured ATF was too viscous to use in them.  But it works fine and gets ATF where it needs to go.

I'm sure this is not news to a lot of you.

I have a different brand, but with a brass nozzle.  I can lube the drive chains at a steady walk by laying the nozzle in the roller chain.  not a pain, so I do it when needed.

I'm not completely satisfied with my sprayer for ATF.  I use one of these for ATF and one for diesel.  I'm watching this thread to make an upgrade.

I've been using one similar to Ted's. It works ok but it pees rather than mists when using ATF. It's ok but something that made a finer spray would be nice. I can see where a wand would be nice too.

A restaurant style ketchup squeeze bottle is the best thing I have found over the years for lubing chains.

I like to cut my atf with a bit of diesel to get the right consistency.

Good 1inch paint brush and jelly jar good on track and headrig, use a metal squeeze oiler for wiper. Tried sprayers and TS spray bottle but way to sloppy.

I was sawing not long ago and needed to oil the mill, but had no ATF.  I tried bar oil for a chain saw.  I like it much better.  The oil sticks to the chain better.  I have used ATF and it ran off as fast as I applied it.   Bar oil works great.  I use one of the Goldenrod pump oilers to apply mine.

DR Buck

I use one of these.  It puts out a good stream of ATF and I can get it on the vertical rails and chain pretty easy.  It is also precise when doing the toe board and backstop rollers.

Redneckman, do you not find that sawdust collects more in the bar oil than if using ATF?

Same question on the bar oil - I assume it is too tacky. I use a simple quart pump type squirt bottle from my local hardware store.

I don' think so. I have even used roller chain lube on mine before. That stuff is made to stick to a chain.  My way of thinking is that if the atf is gone in seconds, what good is it doing? I can deal with the dust sticking a little as long as the chain and rails are lubed. My mill has dust stuck to it everywhere anyway. I run diesel in my lube tank. It causes the dust to stick a little, but it also keeps the mill from rusting. Much better than water and soap imo.

I would be concerned about sawdust sticking everywhere would cause more problems than anything else even to the point of messing up the lumber thicknesses, tearing up seals, etc. At the end of every sawing session I try to blow everything off with my leaf blower and most of the dust blows off readily. That is one reason I don't like to saw when there is even a misting rain.

ATF is what Woodmizer recommends.  It does not lose its lube qualities and sawdust will not stick on it, which is what you want, It also prevents rust.  I even put it on the outside of my rollers and they look as new as the day I got the mill.

ATF should work fine on Woodmizer's stationary chains.

Chains on motorcycles, farm equipment etc. that are rotating, transmitting mechanical power are better lubricated with a heavier oil.

Dish detergent bottle with a piece of soft copper or brakeline jammed in for a tip makes a nice free oiler.  You can pinch off the tip to dial in flow control.

I bought my first mill in 2010. In a pinch I filled an old 409 bottle with ATF to get started. I have been through several different spray apparatus since then but that 409 bottle is still the fall back when the others stop working. May just be a fluke but it works for me.  Brian

I use two different bottles for the ATF plus a can of Blaster Garage Door lube.

The clear bottle takes care of the mast and the yellow bottle takes care of all of the chains and whatever else.  It has been with me since well before I bought the sawmill.  The Garage Door lube shoots a stream and lubes the blade guide chain as I run it in and out.  It nor the ATF collect sawdust.

We use for hyd fluid when servicing our coffee can. It seems to hold up well against petroleum products, compared to "heavy duty" chem spray bottles. We had the same sprayer for 4 yrs, and is probably still in service.
