Ok my father in law is going to give me a Stihl cutoff saw. In looking it over he told me it has an option to add bar oil and be used as a 90+ cc chainsaw. Is that correct? I don't know model numbers and have never seen the saw. Just going off what he's telling me. Anyone heard of this?

I have never seen such a thing. Some cutoff saws were adapted from chainsaw power heads but they don't have provision for the oiler.

I it were me, I would look at it REAL close for this bar oiler option that I was told about. Every cutoff saw that I've ever heard of didn't have one. Water option, some; oiler, no.
Trying harder everyday.

;D Is the water connection for dust suppression, the 'oiler option' ? If you use that you would be knee deep in oil very soon and not a drop would go into the guidebar

I think you will find it quite a chore to turn a cutoff saw into a chainsaw. My ts420 cutoff saw doesn't have an oiler or bar studs. Also the starter rope is incorporated into the cover on the right side of the engine instead of the left. At first glance they look similar, but are two totally different machines.

I've seen the 08 used as a cut offsaw - to use it as a chainsaw, you just mount chain, bar and clutch cover, which includes oil tank and pump. But it is not 90cc, more like 50ish.
Do you know which cut off saw it is?

On J'red cut off saws the oiler channel is there, it's just plugged. In other words the casting halves are the same as in a chainsaw, but you would have to add an oiler and whatever other parts you need to convert to a chainsaw. I can't speak for Stihl.

Depending on the filtration system and maintenance therein, be leery of concrete and cut off saws as 'deals'. If you can, do a compression check and pull the muffler/carb and look at the P&C.

X2 Cutoff saws operate under very severe condtions, without constant maintenance they don't last long.

Thanks for the input guys, I have a feeling its like some have mentioned and it probably just shares some parts with chainsaw, but doesn't actually work. I'll try to get some pictures of it to see what he's talking about. I don't intend to use it as a wood saw as I already have a 362 and 661. It just seemed like an odd ability for a cutoff saw and I was skeptical when he told me.

Well I was wrong, it does indeed look like this cutoff saw can be used as a chainsaw.  Here are the pics of the saw and a video I foulnd of one being used in chainsaw mode.

I wonder what he did about the oil pump.

we done one for a customer years ago,a husqy 371 consaw i think same body as a 365 chainsaw put oil pump on and changed coil i think,he still has it running worked fine he said

Generally speaking a concrete saw is more valuable as a concrete saw than  converted to a chainsaw .--just saying

I'd probably be more interested in how it would work with a circular saw blade on it.
