Donp and Horselogger visit

DonP visited with Horselogger at a trade show recently.  This is a picture Don took of Horselogger and asked me to post it for him.


Horselogger sawing with the Peterson mill.  Carl is off-bearing.  Tell us about Carl, Horselogger.

I had wondered what had happened to Horselogger...he called last night, he's been a busy boy. There's a nice few whacks of white pine just waiting to be chewed up.  Went by their place this morning for a visit and took my camera. I've downloaded the xat program onto my friends computer here so I could show y'all more of his operation without bugging Tom to death. Oh, the Carl above is Carl Peterson, Peterson Mills.

And a shot of his Lucas Mill, I'm hoping to go eat a can o' peas there soon and watch it make square ones out of round ones.

You can't see his face in that picture but I think I can see both corners of a big smile from behind that frame.  ;D
I wonder why Carl never drops by and off bears for me?  :'(
Now that I think about it, only two guys ever have and in both cases they soon had to leave.  ;)

That's about half our whack from the last 2 days...around 3,500-4,000 bf total. Those little swing blades can put out the wood! 8) 8)

Don P what are you fixen to build? Arn't you building another log home this summer?

Well Horselogger needs a whack stacked and a barn built and I need help later on when the logs get here so things might be working out  ;)
I had never been around one of those newfangled mills till the show in Madison, and now tailing behind one working. I wouldn't turn my nose up at one at all if anyone is looking. It put out a very respectable volume and quality and at very minimal cost...still on the same blade,4 quick sharpenings of 5 teeth and under 10 gallons of fuel, that's it 8). And didn't bust a gut turning logs and not sawing like on mine,just hustling trying to keep up :D. Forgot to mention last night we didn't even start yesterday till one on account of rain.

I like that aerial view of the mill.  How high up in the tree did you have to climb?   :D

Is that mill used primarily in a permanent location?  It wouldn't be hard to auger the sawdust to eliminate a lot of the shoveling.

Don`t worry about the sawdust, I`ll send Jeff`s friend over with the snow thrower and he`ll blow it up on the roof for extra insulation.  :D
I just spent the weekend getting my LT-15 hand winched up the hill from the gates of Hell.
I think I need a Lewis winch !
