One piece of advice I was given a long time back, from a wise business man. You don't make your money when you sell something. You make your money when you buy it. If you buy it right you can sell it right.
Two LT70s, Nyle L200 kiln, 4 head Pinheiro planer, 30" double surface Cantek planer, Lucas dedicated slabber, Slabmizer, and enough rolling stock and chainsaws to keep it all running.

I have to stay ahead of the curve because of my road trip risk factor.  A show stopping 30ยข breakdown 100 miles from home can be costly, and yes it has happened.  For example, I had an alternator failure one afternoon while sawing a job 245 miles from home.  A call to Wood-Mizer and an overnight delivery to my motel had me back sawing before noon the next day.  The alternator would have failed anyway but I would not have incurred the overnight delivery charges.  Just have to stay ahead of the unexpected.

That is not to say that I might not discount a local job, but I do point it out to the customer when I do.

People like Cedarman is writing about can drive you nuts.  There was a guy who wanted a 1/4 section my sister inherited, who knew what my folks paid for that 1/4, who tried to buy it from my sister for a little more than what the folks paid years later, when the price of land had quadrupled.  He did not get it bought from her, but he did make an ass of himself.  He has moved on, and his kids sold all of his land, and got good money for it.
Most everything I enjoy doing turns out to be work
