I'm new to the forum and I'm finding all this information very valuable. As I look into kiln drying services as a business (exploration phase), how critical is it to be where the harvesting\processing takes place?  Living in central Indiana I think about viability of my location. As I've read a few times on other posts, if you provide great service and a superior product people will seek you out. I would just hate to put something together in an area that may, or may not, have the draw necessary to support the business. Note: We are in an area the does have a well above average household income so there is money here. Look forward to hearing responses. 👍🏼

Being where the harvesting is taking place is important as far as transportation costs go but more important is how many other kiln operators in tha area are going to compete with you.

Who is your customer base? Retail wood workers? Small sawmills looking to add value? What about supply and demand of green and dry, rough, lumber?
