My notification emails were all getting sent to spam until I created a filter in my gmail account to assure that it never went to spam.

In theory, Gmail is supposed to eventually learn if you go into the spam folder and mark the wanted emails as "not spam". Months of doing that had no effect, so I finally created the filter.
