I thought I remembered something on YT . . .

Looks like heavy, hard work. The guy hauling the winch cable out is probably in better shape than most of us!
In 73 and 74 we had one of these (second video) on the sidelines in the Upper Fraser Valley in BC.  We only used it (behind an Allis HD16) on those rare occasions when our big skidder, a Monashee Timber Toter, was out of service.  It was slow and awkward - and the bullhook and mainline was a real treat to haul out from a winch that didn't freespool.  When reversing on an incline with a few inches of snow it could be a real miserable, jack-knifing thing.  But it worked better than all other alternatives.
Robin Hood had it just about right:  as long as a man has family, friends, deer and beer...he needs very little government!

Never seen one, but a book I have Endless Tracks In The Woods by James A Young and Jerry D. Budy will keep you busy for hours!!!
Lots of pictures and I mean A LOT!! Short write ups, can be picked up and set back down and picked backed up very easy. Probably $50 now, but worth it. Lot and lots of arches to read about.
I just looked this book up because it sounds like cool history. Currently $81 on the big book store website. I'm torn between that is way too much for a book & I should buy it because it probably won't get cheaper, but also it's important to keep books like this alive and circulating.

I paid quite a chunk of change way back in 1994 too. :o
I forgot how much, it was a Christmas present to my Father.
This was before the internet too. I saw it at a farm show.
I have not looked at the book for years.
