When you get old, you don't feel as old as you thought old people were when you were a kid.

I got a little inspiration the other day which was desperately needed. I've got a lot of stuff I want to do and now that I've been retired 5 years I thought I would have made more progress than I have.Sold some lumber to a fellow and he called and needed more but it was unclear to me exactly what he wanted so I drove over to his house with a tape measure to do some measuring. He was building on to his equipment shed and after measuring he needs another 350bf of sheeting to finish walls. He had just bought 300bf a couple days before and had already put it up and stained it.This fella is 8 years older than me and showed me around his place. He gave his house to his son several years ago and built himself a smaller one as he lives alone. It was something to see along with the nicest equipment sheds I have ever seen.On the porch was a couple wooden Indians that he had carved with chainsaw and chisel that looks as good as any I've saw at craft shows .Upbeat fella always planning another project.Came home thinking I've still got a lot to do so I'd better get with it.

Boy! Ain't that the truth! I did too. I may keep that one and write it down some where or get it put on a shirt or something.

Truth be told, when I was 20 I never really could picture or imagine myself living past 40, in fact, I never expected to live to be old enough to retire, that just seemed out of the question, even when I was 40, retirement semed like a pipe dream, I lost too many older friends who dies on the job or while still working. One guy hit the lottery, retired, and died a month later. Never thought I would get that far.
I guess I had that wrong. Now I have to re-think this whole thing and try to figure it out as I go.

Years ago, my mother would say, "you're not old enough to be doing that!". Years later, my wife started saying, "you're too old to be doing that!". The time in between the two was awfully short!

I think this happens due to subjective age basically as a 50 year old I can feel like I'm 25, until my body makes me remember haha

At 70 I tell myself I should slow down. So today I'm going to cut a bunch of 12"x12"x16' and 8"x8"x20' beams for an order.
Then put away all the side lumber from the logs. It will be a fun day. ffcheesy Might have time to take out the HOT ROD. ffcool

In reading this I noticed the posters profile alongside each post does not show age anymore. The reason probably has something to do with bandwidth for us old guys.
Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

Too soon old, too late smart.

I try not to lean too much on the reasoning "well, I'm getting old".  You know, youthful mind, youthful body.  But then I started thinking Senior citizen discounts!

I'm fortunate I ended up with enough to have a life long dream of my own shop with an auto lift and the health to enjoy it.  The sawmill was an added bonus.

Your body speaks louder and with a firm conviction when 85. Instead of cleaning up the large old oak tree that fell in the woods across the trails, you just cut it up enough to move it to the side.  ffwave
