Looks like norwood has stolen the magic hook idea. Sorry @Magicman.  Well, not quite the same,  but very similar.

I have always heard that "Imitation is the highest form of Compliment", I just wonder why they did not go ahead and properly name it a "Magic Hook".  Obviously I should have gotten a patent.

The log turning ramp is also my 'invention", even though mine is a Firetruck Wheel Chock.   :)

Do you roll the log up on the chock to turn the log sideways?

You can roll the center of a log onto something and spin it around but for one person the chock works very well.  Put it on the end that you want to "hold" and cant the other end around a bit to change the log's rolling direction.

You can do that with a piece of 4" x4' wood. In the middle of the log. Turn the whole thing without spinning the log in the dirt.
If you get the balance right, you can turn it with one finger.
The hook is a good thing to have at a job. Been around in the early 1800.
Thanks to MM for bringing up it to every ones a tension.

I tend to use a branch off cut, firewood, or even the cant hook to spin around a log.

Since I live in WV there is always a rock nearby to use as a chock. I do use a scrap board or cant hook sometimes to spin a log. The Magic Hook goes on every job and makes the customer realize how smart I am (Even though they don't know I stole the idea).

On tractorless milling jobs we have learned the magic of the "magic hook" and how to steer a log by pivoting on a block.  My magic hook is part of a old cant hook.

Mine are both from broken logging tongs:

I split the eye, inserten the ring, and then welded er back together.  The top hook is from the shown broken tongs.  The bottom of course was from smaller tongs.

Shown here being used as end tongs handling 20' logs.

We lost a tire chock a few years ago.  Now I know where it went.  Actually, we have lost many large chocks over the years.  You would think it would be hard to lose.  At least half the time its in the way of trying to drive away.  The driver goes to leave a scene and the truck won't move.  Ah-hah didn't pick up the chock.

Mine was given to me by an accident investigation Highway Patrolman that I was sawing for.  Yup, it had been left at an accident scene.
