Optimum or ideal log bunks and notch cutouts

G'morning folks. Yesterday we milled some simple log bunks to be used in our new mill, we started with 6"x8" x 5' bunks.  I saw someplace a diagram of the optimum notch cutouts for log bunks. If I recall correctly, it was a stepped notch design - the top most notch was maybe 1.5" deep and maybe 24" wide.  Then it stepped down another 1.5" and was like 18" wide or something.  Kinda like the crude char drawing below (hopefully formatting sticks properly).

Anyway, I need to know what the dimensions are for the steps. My numbers above are just guesses.  Does someone here have access to the diagram and dimensions that shows the optimum log bunk notch cuts?

One more thing: do we have a recommended spacing for log bunks? Every 4-6 feet or every 8 feet? Our new mill has 26' log rails, and the last cuts on the longer logs would sag if I don't make enough.

Thanks, and Cheers!
SAM

I would probably draw circles to scale to see how the log fits into the bunkers.  You can then modify measurements to get what you desire.  You need pretty good mechanical muscle to get the logs back off the bunks.
