Doc, as soon as I saw that first photo I knew it was a Schrade. That was likely made just 20 minutes down the road from me at Schrade's main plant. One job shop I worked for we got a contract for machining the jaws on their multi-tool. I designed the fixtures and wrote the programs. We would do something like 2500 jaw halves a day. ran that machine 14 hours or more some days. They couldn't make them fast enough when they got popular. The engineer we did business with got a box full of 'seconds' for all the fellas in our shop. I asked him why I could not find any defects, even minor. He winked and pulled me on the side and confessed that he may have grabbed them from the first quality rack by mistake. :D I engraved my name on mime because there were so many floating around our shop.

When Schrade closed up it put a lot of machinists out in the job market and I worked with quite a few of them. Good company. They donated very nice knives to our Scout Council's fundraiser auction every year and I bought a very nice 2 knife boxed set for my Pop at one of those auctions.

You did a nice job on that one.

Nice job Doc. Sure is nerve racking only having one chance to get it right on a family heirloom.
My Co2 laser was delivered yesterday and setting it up today. Can't wait to fire it up.

OGH My sister used to be 3rd in charge of the NY prison system and had Schrade make thousands of custom knives for handouts. Here is one of mine. It's a 1992 100 year commemorative skrimshaw knife for the Mattewan celebration. It's #110 of I think a thousand.  Sad to see companies like that loose out to offshore competition.

That sounds like she was handing them out to the prisoners. Suspect not!   :D ;D

My first attempt at an end grain cutting board. A (Late) gift for my mom. Made from white birch. It got a little smaller every time I worked on it.

What makes it an end grain cutting board?

Nice looking board.

Nice looking board.
Should have the growth rings facing "up" when it's in use. Supposed to be more resilient to knife work on the board. On a second look it looks like I might've glued this the wrong orientation to call it "end grain" I guess I got a little too carried away with the glue and clamps.
