Trying harder everyday.

Nice find on that 162. I wouldn't leave it behind either. :)

A useable Windsor bar in fair condition.  And saw for the price of a new bar.  His father's farm saw from Wisconsin.  Started on third pull today and is a good strong runner.

That 162 looks good.

I'm torn, there's a cheap 61 not too far from me and a substantially less cheap 460 rancher and I'm debating between the two, any suggestions?  FWIW, the 61 is the newer style with a grey plastic brake arm vs. the earlier wire bail and older looking plastics.

I'd go for the 61, I personally think it's a great saw.  Good work horse type for firewood and the slightly larger task.  I can't give any input on the 460 as I have never used one.  Lots of options and parts for the 61.

Depends a lot on what your intentions are and whether you're into or able to freshen up an older saw. As a project, the 61 opens several doors. Most popular of which is to convert it to a 272XP. Top end bolts right on and there's no clearance issue under the gray top cover. Only other changes are the different intake parts; gaskets, bolts and intake block, which are not expensive.

The 460 is an underated saw that gets looked down on by saw snobs on any of these sites. It checks off all the wrong boxes to the self-enlightened: "plastic", "clam shell", "open port". The 455/460 are very reliable saws for one. A 460 is lighter than a 61 and has better anti vibe, and probably outcuts it as well. @weimedog , we ought to look into that if we have a stock 61/625 to compare it to. :)

Don't get me wrong, this chassis is my long time favorite for sure. But IMO the 61 or Jonsered 625 are a bit on the lame side compared to all of the other models in this saw family, and they seem heavy for what you get out of them. The drop off in performance is far more noticeable than on other chassis with multiple models such as the 365/372, 242/246, 357/359, as well as the current 500 series saws. In most cases, you can hardly tell the difference in performance. I've got two 61's and one Jonny 625 and I've converted all of them to something else. :)

I have zero hesitation tearing into anything used (and sometimes new) I've bought just to inspect everything and make sure it's not going to let me down.  A 372XP project sounds promising.

This saw would likely live with a 20" bar and be used for felling & bucking, since I'm rarely messing with more than one tree at a time, I typically will grab one of the 50-55cc saws for trimming off smaller branches.

The 61 looks decent but certainly used and is being offered for $150, the 460 I can't find now so it must have sold and whomever was selling it wanted $280.  It too was used, but very little.  Weight doesn't matter much to me, the better anti-vibe would be appreciated but cutting one tree at a time, I'll often grab an older saw that doesn't have any anti-vibe at all.
