I'm trying to post pics of my circle sawmill. I've uploaded photos on other sites, but they seemed more user friendly or I just got lucky.
The "allowed files types" don't list mine which are .jpg
Is there a way to make this work?
I looked for a link on this site something in the order of "Picture Posting tips for Dummies" but no such luck .....

This is a long thread, but everything is in there somewhere, including help to other members problems as they got started.
In the past the forum has been more then "user friendly".  Posting photos to my requirements ARE a nessesity. There are well over 10,000 photos on the forum at this point.  :)

I just did this myself.  Been putting it off for some time.  It took me some time, but most of my problems were due to file size.  Lets see if I can insert a photo.

I did it.  8) 8) 8)

Well, I'm having a heck of a frustrating time figuring this out.   ::) So...as I figure each step out, I'm going to put it in here, and then modify this post each time I figure something new out.  It's a primer for me, and it seems to be a steep learning curve, at least for me.   ::)

First step:

Create a new gallery.  Now, if you're like me, you got to that page and didn't quite know what to do.  First, get your butt over to the image archive.  You'll see an option to "Create/Modify My albums."  Click on new, and suddenly, in the window, "New Gallery" will appear, in blue.

Come up with a name for your gallery, and then click "Apply Modifications"

Then you can go to the very top of the page, and click on "upload file."

You can at this point browse on your computer to find the file you want to upload.  After you upload some files, you can name them, and put a description, etc.

Voila!  You've started your first album.   8)

Now...I'm COMPLETELY stymied as to how the heck you actually get the picture from your album over to a post.  It's all over my head right now, which bugs the HECK out of me, since I usually can figure these things out.  But...I'm going to keep digging into the long thread about posting pictures and figure it out, unless somebody can help me out a little here.  I know it shouldn't be this difficult, but I suppose if I figure it out, slowly, and post my solutions in here, it'll help somebody else out too. ::)

Now, this information seems to be quite important, from da Boss in the thread about photo uploading:

"Your gallery number is also the same as your forum number. Maybe some of you didnt realize it, but in the big change over the new software assigned everyone a number, and that number also represents what number your registration was. I got lucky and was number 1."

I did a source code investigation of a post by CKTATE to see what the actual code looked like.  I was confused, of course by the number.  This is what I saw:  https://forestryforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10913/ckoldcar1.JPG

So, where I am right now is that if I just figure out my "number," then I can plug that into the address up there of CKTates, along with the file name of my JPG, and I should be all set.  But...there HAS to be an easier way.   ::)

You can all consider this an open expose of my thinking process.   ;)

Paschale, The ballpark is about 10 miles back that way!!! ;D

All ya had to do was ask!
The # thing means NOTHING!!!!!

To post a pic from the gallery, ANY pic in ANY gallery, click on it and it will open a bit bigger.
Look under the pic for a line that reads: "Click to copy photo insertion code".
Click that line!
Then go to your post and hit "Paste" under the "Edit" button in your toolbar OR right click and hit "Paste".
Preview your post to see the pic.

Buzz, not sure what you have, but just clicking on the line "Click to copy photo insertion code" will copy it. No need to right click in most cases.

Hey, I wanna try too! :)

To find your gallery easy go to image archive at the top of each page.  Click on it, click on my gallery, and there you are right at where you've got your pictures.

If you want to post one of the pictures that's already in a gallery, click on it to open it up in it's own window. scroll down the page and click on where it says  'Click to copy photo insertion code' go back to your post, right click on your mouse and when the pop up comes up scroll down to paste and it'll automatically paste the right code on to your post.

To post a picture to your gallery click 'additional options' when you are posting,
scroll down and click your mouse where it says 'Click here for member photo gallery', and a new window will open. I then click on upload file and find the picture on my computer and transfer it to the file.  I do it by clicking browse and going to either 'my pictures' or 'desktop' or where ever I have the picture stored and then click on it.  I then click continue a couple of times until it loads the picture in my gallery.  It'll do it all by itself if you keep clicking continue each time until it does. Once you have it in your gallery again, click on the picture until it opens, and up in it's own window. scroll down the page and click on where it says  'Click to copy photo insertion code' go back to your post, right click on your mouse and when the pop up comes up scroll down to paste and it'll automatically paste the right code on to your post.

Well, at least that's the way I do it. :)

You are #913 CK, and sure do mean a lot! ;D

Paschale

Alright...let's see if I have this DanG system figured out.   ::)

When I get frustrated with computers, and want to toss them out the nearest open window (which is how I've felt tonight a couple of times), the best thing to do is stop and

well, there it is.  It ain't as painful as I thought it was.

Oh...and btw...I figured out my number too, by going in my DanG album, and then clicking on view source:  I happen to be number 10109.   :D :D :D

OK...now to go post a real picture in a real post.   8)  Thanks for the assistance guys...I feel dumb.   :D

Nope, you are #109!
I guess an extra 10 got added on. ;D

Don't feel DUMB!
It just takes a little bit of feeling around to get things to work.
It really isn't as hard as it sounds eh?

etat

Did you see how easy I tricked Furby into telling me what my real number was! ;D

Seriously, until today I had NO idea!!!!

Thanks Furby!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

For anyone else that wants to know..........
Hold your cursor over your name in one of your posts, then look in the address line at the bottom of the page.
You'll see a bunch of stuff and then... profile;u=***.
The *** will be a #, that is yours or whose ever name your cursor is over.

Jeff

Furby is right, the numbers actually mean nothing when it comes to you using them for any reason. What was meaningful to me about them, was I could tie you to your page in the gallery with a link that looks like a camera on each of your posts.

I was wondering if you were going to rub it in 1.

Actually I don't consider 577 that bad considering we have 2528 members now. ;D

So, #1, is our #the order in which we signed up on the forum?

Roughly, yes.  It reflects order, but not nessesarily the position you actually registered.  anyone registered after you (109) will have a higher number, but it does not nessesarily mean you were actually the 109th person to register, due to software changes, and deletions of usernames over the years.
