Interior siding underlayment: does 15# felt paper really smell? Better options?

I've been laying the floor at the new neighbors. He has been a flooring guy in the past but popped his bicep tendon doing drywall a month or two ago. Anyway, he purchased everything from his old employer. When I saw this I thought of this thread. This is the underlayment they use, the tarpaper is inside, I smell nothing;


 



 

I made that cedar paneling for them 20 years or so ago. In 30+ years the previous folks never finished. I think there is enough for chair rail down in their barn.

I think we'll get along ok, he fired the pt's Friday and cut while I hammered all weekend. Hillbilly PT  :D.

I just thought I'd update this thread for future reference -- 

My insulation is happening next week and the current plan is black WMP paper.  I had originally researched WMP and liked it as a breathable vapor barrier between the interior insulation batts and the 1x8 doug fir interior siding but couldn't find it in Black.  I found a local insulation company that has WMP in black so that's my current plan!
