I've got a Timberjack 230-GS with a 353 Detroit that needs a new starter. Serial number for the machine is 783203. Any ideas of the part number or where I could find it? Thanks  :snowball:

You could google the name to be sure that's the same number. I'm sure it is. Only been a few years since I ordered from him.

some auto parts stores can match it

A good reputation starter rebuilder can probably find the #. Try hard to get existing starter # and description. There probably more than one starter on the 353. Good luck

Hello
A  couple of Questions
1 Are sure its the starter and not the solenoid
2 Have you removed the starter (usually one or two 5/8 12 point bolts holding it in place)
You can rebuild the starter (most common failure low cranking voltage high current weakens the springs on the brushes so they wont make contact with the armature)
Bring brushes (to match replacements) into a starter rebuilder along with the armature to test it
The solenoid contacts wear they can be shimmed to make positive contact
Have lots of hand cleaner handy as your right arm is going to get very greasy up to your elbow
Cheers
