I had my coffee and was feeling like I was catching up on a 10 year old question from Jim, yup, about 29 minutes he walks through figuring out the design strengths for yellow poplar  ffsmiley .

At around 1hr 2min is a question and answer we have kicked around since the shear value adjustment around '05 and a good rational response.

Around an hour: 14 is a comment regarding grain, ring count, and density that we have discussed, another good comment.

Thanks for sharing that video. I watched it live years ago, but it was good to watch it again.

Don,   Thanks for the video.  Wow, what a great experience, and in plain English without a lot of big non-understandable words.

Although I probably will not be designing structures, understanding those concepts and variances helps to be able to talk with Architects and Engineers.

Being able to talk with the designers, helps me to be able to see logs and get out of those logs what the designers wish.

Question:   They talked about various grading classes.  How do we learn about some classes?

Thanks again

It's extremely easy to make things complicated, but very difficult to keep things simple.
