Mine is a Savage Model 242, Series C, made in Westfield Mass.
This one is Over&Under 410/410, with the barrel selector on the hammer.
I've had it for quite a long time, and it's seen quite a lot of activity!

Lynn, the finish on the action looks partly like "case hardening" and partly like    "nickel" finish!

Could be a combination of both!

There does not appear to be any plating.  With the action open you can see tooling marks so whatever the metal is, it is a solid piece.  Same stuff for the hammers, triggers, etc.  ??

Yes, that is exactly what it is.  It was passed down to me by and aunt and that is all that I know.  I have never shot it.  You can see; Made in Spain on the lower barrel.
