Skidding in the snow

Just as a quick reminder to realize I'm not 25 anymore, I went out for a ride on the 664D to pull a few poplar home for next year's heat. We have about 30" of snow in the bush, and was hovering near melting today. Very sticky. Without chains, I had to leave er parked on my trail. No problem going empty, but couldn't haul a drag without chattering in the snow. Nice to hear the Jimmy scream for a bit regardless.

I have that issue with my 240E also. I blame it on the wider tires I guess?
Makes me very uncomfortable when it starts that chattering, it feels like it could get $$$$ fast haha.
But with the warmer weather now I have been thinking of going out for a few laps soon too. I'll wait til the snow diminishes a bit more. Won't be long.

My 230 with narrower tires will do it a well. I agree, it feels and sounds expensive and problematic. It's just a toy, so I'll wait for the snow to drop a little more. If I had my tire chains on it would help a ton.

Accumulating snow is the worse . I used to make my trails a day before so the trail will freeze a bit .

I'm just a home owner cutting dead EWP for an OWB. 
When I use to work 4 days on and 4 days off, I seemed to have more time to work in the works, but that was more then 10 years ago too. 
I would work in one area and run through my trails everyday, even if I was not cutting in that area.
But as I said, this was a small area and I was not cutting 8 hours a day.
Nor doing it to pay the bills.

More snow again here. We have got another 6" or so this week, with more in the forecast. I ran the Clark back out to the yard this afternoon after changing the starter solenoid. I had to release the hitch several times just to get home in the snow. Good opportunity to make the winch grunt a bit, wishing I had my tire chains on.

I'm 6'1"...took a step off the trail and the snow was up to my hip. 

I will not be running the skidders anymore until the snow melts substantially. Not worth the risk of breaking a planetary or worse.

I almost doubt we had much more then 18 inches on the ground all winter.
Least I think I have ever seen.

We get a snow free winter up here about every 25 years, it seems so in my lifetime anyway. 1980, and 2006. Next one is due 2031 looks like. This winter the fields never had deep snow, there was maybe 18" at the most in the woods. The fields here are so wind swept that you need about 4 feet of snow fall to cover them. I'm still walking on snow in the woods here, but it ain't deep now. On a mild day you drop to the bottom on a cold day in the teens you walk on cement, and it will even hold a 1200 lb buggy up.
