well after 2 years i bit the bullet and bought a peterson 8"wpf. It came last week, worked some kinks out with the guys down under and all is good. I called down under and rex gave me the following #'s but i have searched the web high and low and can not find them. here they are   27rx 100r, .404, .067. I dont see these #'s on oregons web site. has oregon changed this chain????The mill uses different ripping chain than my large alaskan mill. This chain has two cutters about every foot or so. Help!

Timo

Just a guess, but you might try giving Bailey's a call. They sell the Lucas, and it might just be that the Lucas ripping chain will fit the Peterson. They also sell a range of chain for harvesters and other non-chainsaw applications.  Good luck.

27R is a standard .404 ripping chain.  27RX is a full skip sequence.  I can get it from my Oregon distributor by the roll only.

thanks guys, i'll know to ask for the full skip. I was reluctant to call bailys and ask for chain for my peterson mill....i'm sure it will be fine.  I riped some 4'4"x8'6" monterey cypress slabs yesterday. A little slow but the o'l slabber attachment did get it done. I hand sharpened a few times, but it would be nice to get a role of the stuff and be able to just swap chains and sharpen all of them at the end of the day. my wife thinks im nuts...i've been in the field everyday since i uncrated this thing sawing slabbing moving to the next log and then sawing and slabbing.....thanks for the help and i'll put some picts up soon....ill even count rings on this old cypress.....A little ahead of myself but i'm robert in central california on the coast...i'm in the point reyes area....hope to talk to you all soon....again i'll put up picts soon of my whole scene...I'm gonna go look for some rolls of chain....thanks again robert

Rob, welcome aboard the best place on the internet!!!

When I bought my lucas slabber, I was told not to buy skip chain as the cost involved is too much, what was recommended to me was to buy full compliment chain and set it in a bench vice and grind out the unwanted cutters. In this way you can 'design' your own chains for certain species and also probably use one roll for all your saws?

One thing I found with Lucas chain (not sure if the same with Peterson slabbers) is that there are 5 cutters skipped, this means that each set of cutters is opposite to the previous ones. ie. left, right then right left, then left right. I'm gonna experiment with a 4 skip pattern which then has each set of cutters being left right all the time, just on my 2 cents thought this may reduce a bit of uneven cutting by keeping the cutters the same distance apart all through the chain???

By no means am I a chain expert and feel free to totally ignore what I have said :D ;D
Always willing to help - Allan
