Nice looking job on the Cant hook.  If you used mild steel (hot-rolled), I don't think that it will stand much "man-handling" with out bending.

It started out as a 3/8"X2".X12"  It is forged which adds strength by compressing the molecules, then quenched in water @ approximately 900 deg. F.  This adds about the maximum benefit of tempering to mild steel.  The thinist part is about 5/8" not counting where the pivot is which is still 3/8"/ Seems to work pretty well with 20 to 22" logs. Good bite on the tips. I used it the first time after I picked up my WM Super40 in Mt. Vernon,  Mo. I used it on the three cherry logs Arkansawyer racked up. I named my new mill Glenda after my father who passed away in 98.

The steel is what is @ 900f, witch is just turning and red in full light.   Water at sea leavle and 212f turns to steam. :D :D 

Forging also adds carbon to the outside of the stock witch acts like a case hardening.   All steel used to be made from iron by folding this carbon to the inside over and over like pulling taffee. :P   It will hold up just fine, great job Chris!! 8) 8)

Kinda : My back had a little talk with me the other day, it explained that it was time for a bit of down time. >:(   So now I'm rolling around on the flor with the TV mote and this laptop. :   Good thing we got this laptop so I have something ta do, I'm redi to burn the TV, 283 channles of nothing worth watching. :( :(

So you gonna move to Costa Rica for good or whats the deal???
