Found this flower growing in a wet area. It's not in the one wild flower book I have. It has been just like this for a week now. Do you think it will ever open ??? Does anyone know what it is ??? Thanks ;D

 It looks lika a Gentian.

Tom- There are 2 gentians in the Audobon FG to New England.
The first one has single flower per stalk and the other is pink. But the leaves are similar ...

Putting "Blue Gentian" in Google provides a lot of articles.    One even says that some of the Gentians are called Bottle Gentians because the flowers don't open.   Try clicking on the "image" function of Google for a search too.  :)

Thanks, Tom. I hadn't thought of that  ::)

One of the sites said the closed variety was a little rare.
I'm going to go back and see if I can find thier range

Sprucebunny,

Check out Closed Gentian (Gentiana andrewsii). It's petals stay closed, joined by a membrane. Bet that's the one.

Nice looking plant. I don't beleive I've ever seen one in this kneck of the woods. You just never know what you'll find near wetlands.  :)

Hey! I found a white one today, actually all kinds of them. They are in channels of run off in pre-commercial thinning I'm marking out. There seems to be alot of sawflies eating them though. I brought one home, but it's essntially the same as Sprucebunny's. Right now I'm so tired I need toothpicks to hold the eye-lids open. :D
