I am fixing to cut a large oak burl and need to know what to seal it with to slow down drying time.
This burl will be used for various projects at a later date. Thanks for any info anyone may have.

Possum,
Others may have special formulas and there are commercial sealants but I've always used a heavy coat, almost gobbed on, of Johnson's Paste Wax.  It is a Trew wax which means it is derived from a tree as I understand it.  I've used it on bowl stock and mantle piece blanks. You don't want to use petroleum based waxes or auto waxes. Many waxes have silicone in them and that's not good for wood.

I've used wax and paint but found a commercial green wood sealer the best. A gallon will treat a lot of wood.  I buy mine from Woodcraft.  You can find it on www.woodcraft.com
You can order via their catalog, but their homepage should tell you where their closest store is located.

WOODCRAFT Green Wood End Sealer
Controls end-grain checking and splitting of lumber during seasoning. The solid particles in this free-flowing emulsion offer uniform coverage of end-grain, preventing rapid or uneven moisture loss and the resulting internal stresses in seasoning wood. Sealer may be applied with brush, swab, or low pressure spray. Formulated for cold weather applications. One gallon covers approx. 100 sq. feet.

Possum, I would suggest that you stongly consider using ? Anchor Seal.  I use it on all of my hardwoods and even coat both sides of my table slabs.  I have had great success over the last couple years of use.   Good luck.
