We tore up the gearmotor (Broken Magnets inside) and need to replace it. It's 12 V DC.  We have 24V DC gearmotors that will work. Need to have someone with "Bright" grey matter, to e'splane how to charge 2--12V Batteries from a 12V Alternator ( Easy Part)  ::) ::), and then draw 24 Volts off the batteries ??  I've done it before, but, not lately ?????

Did you use a switch before?  you would use a heavy switch to go from ground to the postive terminal on them

You could only charge one battery at a time.  Batteries can not be wired parrallel(12v) and in series(24v) at the same time.  You would have to rig up a switch to charge each battery separately.  :P

Harold, a couple a isolators or rectifiers to give 12 volts to each battery seperate from the alternator, then bridge one positive to one negative ta give da motor 24 volts.

Clear as mud, huh ????

We used to install multiple 12v's all the time when Iworked for St. Lucie County.  this website speaks of stuff that sounds familiar even though I'm no expert.

You know that a 24 volt DC motor will work on 12 Volts DC. Just will not turn as fast and will have less power.

Another option would be to use a 24 volt alternator. They are commonly available for some farm tractors and heavy equipment. Then you could use the center connection to run 12 volt equipment.

Just some more options.

Do you still have birthdays?  I am thinking about giving them up as nothing good seems to result from them?   ;D ;D

Gary_C, Ed got the 24V gearmotor mounted today. Works almost as fast as the one we had, using 12 Volts. For now, we have a few sawing jobs to catch up, then we will play with Voltages.

This is the last Birfday, cause it made the O-fishul date for the Sociable Security check to get sent to da mailbox.  8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
