I forgot one thing.
The Homelite is a mid to late 60's and the McCulloch is an early 70's

Kevin

That should kill this thread.  :D

WoodSmith

ya probably killed my interest in this forum as well.

Best place for filters, Bars, Chains is the local Chain Saw Store as Oregon and a few other companies
still product new parts for wear items like that.

If they are BIG saws then go to eBay. There are a few online eBay Stores that specialise in
having parts for the oldie but goldies. Randy's Small Engine repair comes to mind and he
has an eBay store.

I also have found if you deal with some of those places..they know of OTHER places for parts you
have trouble findin...you sort of network until you get what you need.

Woodsmith, plastic throw-away saws are very popular in here.  The rest of us are lost in the past.  I prefer the latter.  Try the chainsaw collectors corner.  I'm sure somebody can post a link for you.  That XP1000 was some serious muscle in its day.  Good luck!

WoodSmith

Thanks,
I have been searching Ebay, found a set of points for the mac. I've been checking Chainsaw collectors corner as well.
I'll just keep searching.

WHat exactly do you need? Maybe we can help collectively as there are many who visit here who
like to revive those old monsters.

(Don't let the herd mentality of the standing "stihl" types bother you much....some times its
almost like other motorsports its about what you have (relative to the herd) vs. what you
know. Used to watch the same thing in MX & Hare Scrambles.)

It's not so much the manufacture as it is the vintage.
Parts for any saw of that age will be difficult to locate in any variety and quantity.

Those little Mini Macs,110/120 usually go cheap on e-bay.More times than not,a donor parts saw can he had cheaper than the repair parts. The odd ball little sprockets are the hard item to find on these saws.
Both McCulloch and Homelite used the practice of somewhat interchangable parts among several models[unlike like the famous orange and white saws so popular today]
There is a certain saw collector from Australia that has both Homelite and McCulloch parts list, manuals etc on CD he sells on e-bay,for a resonable price.I would consider this a must for the serious collector.I have the lists on paper but let me tell you ,I have many, many times more money involved than the price of those CD s.
The reason I brought up the subject of parts lists is the fact that many e-bay sellers have no idea what model of saws the parts fit and just list the numbers.

Al_Smith Would you happen to know this persons ebay handle, or the item description?
Thanks I really appreciate the input.

I'd like to find a muffler for the homelite XP1000
Electronics and possibly carbs are going to be the biggest issues for refurbishing the saws.

I bought a set of points off ebay for the mini-mac we'll see if that gets er running, assuming they are the right part, supposedly they are.

Also I saw on ebay the kits that you can buy that will supposedly convert your saw from a points system to an electronic pointless system, anyone tried one of these or heard anything about them?

I've become kind of partial to Husky, but the Stihl that I have as served me well.
And I drive a Toyota pickup.

Ozflea is the seller[Bob Cornwell] ,a noted collector of McCullochs.I think he's on about every web forum but this one.
I won't hold the fact you have a Toyota against you, shucks I even have a few Stihls myself. :D
The carbs are easy to find for those saws descibed, new ones,E-Bay.Besides all that the rebuild carb kits are cheap, usually under 10 bucks.
