One of these days I'm going to learn how to weld.  Then I'm going to build me a mill.  Yall hold me to it!

We sure will!!  ;D  I'll say on learning to weld, just do it. I recently learned how and it is addictive, and not as hard as I thought. There are many aspects to it, but basic straight welds are not tough at all IMO.

I haven't done any welding since I was in my late twenties but I really loved it. You make a perfect weld and it is just a joy.

I have managed to convince the fabricator extraordinary FDH to come on down - the Ticos had better be worried...

So, how did I end up here anyway?

Radar,

Get a list of the poeple that have used there plans to build a mill and see if they are happy with the design and operation.

I really think the only way to build a mill would be to be around, and use one for a while.  I have a cheap mill, bottom line was important for me.  But, there are so many things I could do to improve on my mill, it would just be easier to start over.

D._Frederick is right, talk to people that have built them, and see what they think.

I bought a very old millermatic 35 for 75 bucks, I replaced the diodes and contactor inside it now its the easiest to use welder I've ever tried.
remember man that thy are dust.

If I ever decide to build my own mill, I'll make sure I talk to as many people as possible. I can probably find many of them right here. For now, I'll stick with my Oscar.  ;D
