Went for a little walk on the beach wife my wife, naturally the first thing I notice is a pretty nice log on the beach.  The nice log happens to be a Redwood, old growth real high ring count, that happened to wash north in the winter storms.  I estimate about 1000 bf in it worth about $1000 bucks or so.

Somebody come get it before it is used for a beach bon-fire.

I remember shopping in Park Royal in West Van with my parents as a kid and along came Relic - looked exactly the same as the show, dirty toque and all. It was so cool.

Tillaway, had the same thought as you today on a smaller scale - western red, up in Vancouver - now I need to buy a boat!

Seeing that post reminded me of the old Bill Warren post back in 2002.  What a hoot.  He was looking for investors for sunken redwood off the California coast.

When I was on the coast, I saw guys takig cookies from stumps that had washed up on shore.  They were big ones, and they were making tables, I believe.

When I was packing up my stuff, after selling my house in Florida, I came across a tape with Bill Warren on it. He was hawking a story to potential investors.  Thought about sending the tape to JeffB, but, didn`t. Not sure where that tape went  ::) ::)

Can I get to the site it is located?  I will come down next week for sure.  Let me know, please.  I will split it with you.   What is the length, etc.?

Frank, Its a 40 or 32 footer about 26" or so, located in downtown Oceanside, near the tunnel through the cliff.  I'm not sure how to get on the beach but there were tire tracks on the beach down there.  Go on ebb tide.  If you want a quick look go into downtown Oceanside and park at the state park beach access, walk on down to the beach and look to your right, you can't miss it.  It up in some larger rocks but if you were to cut it short you could persuade it back on to the beach.  The beach has lots of gravel so your 450 should do OK.  Bring a winch.

The log got loose from someone in Cali and floated up here, its even branded and painted.

All red no, white sap wood and the bark is off it, there is a small pocket or two of rot showing.  It is normal for these to have them, the large end shows no defect.

I have found Teak and Mahogony as well as Redwood on the beaches here.  Not to mention the native species, it seems as though the beach logging opprotunities here not nearly as good as the central coast.  Lots of logs there.
