Scored big...literally!!  8)  43 inch Silver Maple. Took 4 hours of cutting, and some very "primitive" loading techniques to get that beast up on the trailer!! The guys that actually dropped the tree were not able to pick up the log, and there was nobody else in the area with as big of a saw as mine that knew about it before I did...hahaha(36 inch bar)  ;D so off I went, and I think i ended up with a pretty sweet deal! check out the pics...

Nice score on the maple log!

I went through all of the "primitive" ways to load logs until I came across this:

This one solved all of my loading problems :)

Left Coast Chris

ram....... I was also given a monster silver mapl(48"+.........over here on the left coast.  Are you sure that is a silver maple?   Mine appeared to have more scale appearance to the bark and there was no difference in color between the heart and sap wood.  Mine was a creamy white all the way through.   The wood has been drying for about three weeks and is still as white as the day it was sawed.  Pieces left in the sun turned a very light brown.  The best looking grain was flat sawn in my opinion.   :o

Also.... the tree grew really fast. Growth rings were about 3/4" to 1" apart.  Not much of it is spliting and not much warpage also.  It looks like it will be great to work with.    My pics are not developed yet.  When we get them back I will scan and post.

Great Tree! 8)

Very cool.  Looks like a lot of fun/work, and a lot of wood.

So many trees, so little money, even less time.

I agree with the rest. Unfortunatly, thousands of great saw logs get thrown away every day. I cringe every time I go by and see the tree services cutting up these nice logs into chunks >:(
