hi folks.i signed up for the forum yesterday and i figured i should let everybody know who i am. my real name is delbert and i,ll soon be the big 40.i live in northern new york.
i drive a school bus and do other things to try and make a living.i,ve been involved with trees and woods my whole life.i got involved with sawmill when,i was 12 years old.my dad bought a belsaw circle mill that year.he also had a belsaw edger and planer.we ran the mill from mid april to mid oct for years.i worked in it for a total of 10 years.we sawed around 125,000 to 175,000 bd feet a season.it was mostly white or red pine with some custom sawed hadwoods mixed in.
right now i,am setting up my own mill.i have a hud-son oscar 18 bandmill.my plans are to get it put in a building with a board edger and automatic slabsaw plus plenty of conveyors to move everything.i have the slabsaw and board edger now
i also plan on building a bigger bandmill and changing my 0scar 18 into a resaw . thanks to this site and you guys  i now know how to do it.
i,am working on the mill building now and once thats done i plan on building a bigger work shop so,i have a decent place to build my own equipment...i like doing that kinda thing.
i also have a allis chalmers wd 45 farm tractor with loader and i just bought a firetruck that i plan on converting into a dump truck.i have it pretty much striped down i just need to repaint it and put my dump body on it.
once,i get a chance i,ll take some pics and post them on here.

Cool. You are in a minority of sorts. Most people who find the forum are green (like me) looking for answers and can't really add much yet. You are a "newbie" with tons of experience. Welcome!

Welcome to the forum, Delbert.   8) 8)               This is a great place so be careful because you may catch yourself falling behind on your work because you're always on the computer   :D :D :D

Even though you are hitting the 4 - 0, you sound like you are just getting cranked up.   ;D ;D

thanks for the replys..one thing tho..i,am way beyond eating grits.i already have the bad back and battle scars from working in a sawmill..i,ll live tho.well,i think i will..hehehe.
i should add after the years in a sawmill i want in the woods logging for several years.the last three years i was working for one of the biggest logging outfits around here.we had four skidders,a whole tree chipper, timco tree feller,a mobil loader/slasher/delimber,regular loader with a slasher and several log trucks.i started out enjoying my job.i was running a cable skidder following the timco.i had it made until one rainy day i hopped in the loader and started slashing trees up..next thing i knew i was the landing man..then,one day i felt sorry for a truck driver and chipped a load of chips for him.the boss never asked and i tryed not telling everything i could run or do..life was good until he found out..then,i was working my butt off.
i quit full time logging back in march of 1996.i got swatted up side the head with a john deere 640 cable skidder and i desided it was time for a new line of work. i guit and want fur trapping for two months then,i put myself thur truck driving school and drove over the road for a year after that i got a job running a dump truck with a log loader for a foresty company doing a state dot job.once that was done i started driving a school bus.i hope to retire from bus driving one day.i love the job.
i have big plans for my sawmil i hope they work out.
i,am not sure how much time i,l be on the forum but,i,ll try to be a active/helpful part of it..shoot you guys helped me with the resaw ideas so,i need to return the favor.
