Mr. Administrator - whichever one is on duty .... ???

I getting a reciever hooked up in my shop - don't have it turned on yet - so I just throw my laptop on my chainsaw bench (office desk for now) and I can be logged in all the time I am in the shop. So is there a reason not to do this? Other than the fact it is too easy to walk over and click refresh. I guess if you have the option available it is okay to check the "Stay logged in Permanently" option or not  ???
The oil is all in Texas, but the dipsticks are in D.C.

Yep, thats not a problem you are not logged in forever on this end, but really on your end.  When ever you log into the forum, a cookie is created on your computer so the forum software can identify you as you move around it. So it knows you are the one posting or editing your profile and so on.  When a cookie is created, it is given an expiration date (or time) the login permanantly, isnt really permanant as it has to have a defined parameter, so It is set at 1000 days as I recall.

The forum software lists you as online whenever you move data between you and the forum. That means looking at a new page, or doing something. On the forum side of things, you drop off the online list 10 minutes after the last movement of data, and stay off until you come back and do something new.

I know some folks think that if they are logged in forever they think thier name is on the list, but its not. Only if you are actually here.

The negative part of being signed in forever is if you have other people that might have access to your machine. They could come in as you and do what ever they want as you.  You should ALWAYS log out if you are not on your own, private machine and thats for your benefit more then the forums, except if its an admin. We have bigger worries if someone can be logged on as one of us. We have to be very careful when we travel.
I can change my profile okay. No errors. If you can,t remove all the extra info in other fields and try.
