5th is just a road gear and the 800 is a lot beter than an 8N or 9N.  8N's and 9N's will stop the 3 point working when you push the clutch and the 800 wont so if you are stoped and want to lift the hitch you need to take the 8N's and 9N's out of gear and let the clutch out to make it work witch gets old FAST. >:(

IT RUNS! IT RUNS!!!!! Finally got it to run. still a little more work to do on it though, radiator has a hole and the hyd. cylinders on the bucket need seals. Also need to fix the oil bath air breather(also full of holes) or put a paper breather of some kind. Never had to tear it down. Just kept messing with it a little at a time till it finally turned over. Timing was out about 90*? Runs really good. LeeB :)

Lee,  I get all my parts from Don Barkley at http://www.just8ns.com/ .   He is a great guy to deal with and very knowledgable. Don't be misled by the site name, he has parts for 2n, 9n & 8n's.

Great going Lee! There is nothing like an old tractor to tinker on.

I have fixed pin holes in air breathers with JB weld. That stuff works great and can be sanded and painted.

What works better than diesel is kerosene. It is a lot thinner and will seep through better.

Time is key. Letting it sit longer is always better than if you jump into it and end up with a broken crank or bent rod. The grease gun method would work but you are putting a lot of force on one piston and rod. I have seen the grease gun method used to remove the stuck pistons only after the crank has been removed.

bought JBWeld this morning alng with a tube of stop leak for the radiator. Radiator good for now. Was kinda leary of the stop leak. Had problems with it in tthe past. stoped everything up. Seems to be doing o.k. Ran it for about two hours this afternoon. No more time to work on it this time home. Will have to wait till next days off. LeeB

As mentioned before Steiners and Wengers sell used parts. I have bought from both of them and have no complaints. I bought a new radiator for Dad's H and am very pleased with it. about $250. The original one lasted almost 60 years.

Been lurking for a while but had to reply to this one!   CONGRATS!!  I love seeing that old iron come back to life.  I "resorected" a '43 JD B and use it to brush hog my fields.  FUN FUN FUN!!  There is still a lot of life left in these old girls.
Do your self a big favor Lee and get the service manual for your tractor.  The parts and ITT manuals are  cheap enough and worth their weight in gold.

Allso, Go to   http://www.ytmag.com/index.htm

There is a forum for Ford tractors and you will find a wealth of information there.  I could not have finished my prodject with out the help of the guys on the JD board.  Get a feel for who is the "guru" in that forum and do an archive search on any problem you might have. You won't run into anything that has not been extensivly disscused.  Good luck and enjoy.
