Gang,
I have been researching places that would be more suitable for me and my operations, that are in a climate that is more suitable for my body, and have narrowed it down to 3 locations.
One of them is the area between Knoxville and Bristol TN, as it affords me a central location from which I can provide fast response to storm damaged areas and removing trees, and it's green.
Is there anyone here that can share their own knowledge of those areas, and perhaps provide some input as to what I can expect in a general fashion before I take the road trip to check it out?
Thanks in advance!

I wake up in the morning, and hear the trees calling for me...come make us into lumber!

I have been going to Bristol twice a year for the last 14 or so years. The people are wonderful, the hills are beautiful, the weather is okay and the food is excellent. Labor there is reasonable and it seems there are plenty of people willing to work. I have been thinking about Bristol as an area for us when we finally get sick and tired of snow and cold. ;D ;D ;D
Why not just 1 pain free day?

Its a beautiful area!

It gets snow, but not so much that you get tired of it, and doesnt get so hot that it is unbearable in the summertime. The people there seem really friendly.
I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok, I work all night and sleep all day

I live just across the line in NC. I use to work in Bristol.  As the others have stated there are lots of good people in the area. Tn has no income tax which is good but the property taxes can be higher. Property prices are better the farther away you are from Knoxville and the mountains.
There are lots and lots of small saw mills in the area.
The Interstates in the area are very good, between I-40, I-81, I-75 and I-26.
Lots of TVA lakes, great place to have a boat.
It can get hot and humid but bearable.
Maybe averages one real snow a winter and a few dustings. But everything can shut down for that one snow.
If you have any questions let me know and I can try try to answer.

Gang,
I want to go on record as saying that this group of mill-meisters and folk in general are the whole reason that I frequent these boards so much.
Your outpouring of offers of assistance in gathering information is so wonderful!
I am truly humbled!
My intent, in relocating myself and my companies, is to get into a place that I can make a fair dollar, mill a lot of lumber for myself as well as for people that need my services, position myself for fast response to storms and hurricanes when they strike, build my custom furniture that I love to build so much, find a wonderful woman of my dreams, settle down, and have a family.
I'd like to have the milling and furniture be my only sources of income, but if I have to take a JOB to get things started, I'm willing to do so.
This is getting really exciting!

ROAD TRIP!
