Sure is fun to meet someone after 3 years of internet chat . Kind of neat how life turns out isnt it .

I got the woodtick population this year but anythings better than getting bit by a michigan snowsnake  :)

Thanks everybody and now its time to watch the silo videos !

Ok, I'll bite...  How in DAYLIGHTS do you spear fish in 40 BELOW?

Or do the Fish just freeze and bob about like ice cubes in a drink and you use the spear to spear the ice blocks???  :D

I guess at least you could come home and lie on the floor :D

The stove looks very inviting.

I think I'd rather visit in winter, Are ya SURE there's no wood ticks in winter???

asy :D

I remember them wood ticks down in Bridgewater, NS. The first time I ever saw any. We don't have any here in my area that I've ever seen. Thank goodness.   :)

That's no shack that's a beautiful home.  :)

UB get a couple of college girls to spend their summer vacation there. Get a picture of em giving you a kiss on both cheeks ( where your beard is this is a family forum ) and send it out on a card with a "glad you aren't here" note. ;D

asy

Then you can get them to write a dissertation on what it's like to have WOOD TICKS!!!

My dad has an old pull type grader. Not too sure who made it. It doesnt have a seat like the one in the picture. It has a platform where the operator would stand on with the large wheels for adjusting the blade height.

No ticks in my neck of the woods. I have never seen any on our farm or woods. We sure do have a good crop of skeeters though. About pick you up and carry you away!!

Sioux Falls is across the border in far NW Iowa Greg, we are almost smach dab in the middle. I'm guessing it's 4 hour drive form our place.

Corley5

Dee has family in S F that we are going to visit over Labor Day.  Just thinking about a possible visit and manure spreader pick up  ;D

Don't shoot it up yet  ;D  Our plans for that weekend are still developing but we are going to stay at Uncle Buck's and go to the Western Minnesota Steam Treshers Reunion in Rollag on Friday.  That much is for certain.  So it'd be sometime the first part of the next week? but  Dee has expressed an interest in going to Mt Rushmore too so it could be later.  We'll play it by ear but in the mean time spare it from the 50 cal OK ???  ;) ;D ;D :) 8)

I was thinkin after our walk around the walnuts when you stopped by (my first FF visitor) that we might get some ticks. But I didn't and hoped you didn't, even though the grass was tall (mowed it yesterday :) ).  Haven't had a tick problem here since we first built the place in the 60's.  I've had jobs in the woods where it wasn't unusual to get 40-50 ticks in a day. Would take the car back to the motor pool and ticks would be crawling all over that car as well.

Nowadays we have the itty-bitty deer ticks that are like the size of the head of a pin. They carry the limes disease, and are almost impossible to see compared to the wood ticks that are bett'rn twice their size.

Them's were not attached, but still just crawlin around looking for a good, out-o-the-way place.  Seems it takes them a while to latch on and more time to gorge themselves with blood and get plump.

But it was a sight to see and feel all those crawly things movin around. Didn't like that job (swedish tree ladders 20' up walnut trees for tallying limb stubs and overgrown stubs for a fertilizer project) where one spent the better part of a day hugging trees up to 16'.  Idea was to be satisfied that fertilizing walnut trees with nitrogen didn't stimulate bud growth and lower the quality of the log while increasing growth rate. In the end, nitrogen didn't stimulate any dormant buds, but that was a silviculturists suspicion.

Get me the heck out of there.  :D :D

I was with a bunch of summer students up them orchard latters (tripod design, wide on the bottom, narrow at top) counting seed cones on black spruce after being sprayed the year before with Giberillans and I think there was more cone toss'n, then any counting.  ::)
