Recipe for aged wood?

I remebeer  reading add in a old carving /wood working mag. That read something like ,make any wood look like barn wood.For 19.95  or some money they would send the how to info.

I cant find the add  or the info? Anyone Have a clue, or a re seller of the info?

I've seen where a wire brush was used to remove the soft wood between the growth rings

Hi Dale:
I had a friend who used to "age" pinewood.  He used vinegar, water and a handfull of old nails.  Mix them together and let them steep for a few days and paint it on.  I don't know the percentages of vinegar and water though.  I've not tried it but his results did look good.

Basically, the recipe is 1 lb of baking soda to  1/2 gallon of water.  Set it out in the sun for 4 to 5 hours.

I read once that if you just want to lift the grain use sand and a brick.  Just spread the sand down and rub it with a brick.  Never tried it myself.  I do know one way for sure, though.  Let chickens roost on it for a few years.  Ages it real nice.
