I have a nice straight 2 log 14 DBH persimmon that is in the way. I plan on getting a mill in the next year. Just curious if anyone has any experience with persimmon. I know they used to use the heart wood for golf clubs.

The green lumber doesn't keep well at all.  My guess - and that is all this is - is that the log will lose the bright white color quick.  Make sure to seal the ends to buy yourself some more time.

Persimmon does not last at all well on the ground. It rots pretty quick, and the bugs move in even quicker.

I guess I better try to get it milled. I don't know anyone with a portable mill around here. Any Delaware sawyers out there?

persimmon is hard to keep flat and straight after being milled. use plenty of stackers and stickers and get you a good bit of weight on it as soon as possible. also pine tar has nothing on fresh persimmon sap

wassaw,
You have that right.  Just milled a persimmon this week and it stunk.  Fly's were landing all over it at the mill.  It smelled like rotten fruit.  The tree was just dropped two weeks earlier and was alive at the time.
