Last couple of days I have been working on getting my new mill set up in the barn and just started cutting today with a small maple log.  About 10"x10'.  The log is probably too small as the boards were warping and twisting coming off the mill.  I was just wanting to cut something.  The mill ran good but the only problem is it seems to have a lot of saw dust between the board and cant.  May have been because I was going so slow to be careful not to hit stops or hold downs.  If anyone may know why this was occuring, any comments would be appreciated.  I am trying to post pictures..hope it works out.

Tagerts-
On a horizontal bandsaw you will never get all sawdust cleared out of the cut and off the boards. If the sawdust is not packed hard on the boards you don't have a problem. The  set of the teeth determines how much saw dust remains. To little set causes packed saw dust.

Hey Tagerts, is that a Baker 18M?

bull

what kind of blades are you using.........

Tagerts_crossing

Yes it is a baker 18m and the blade is the one on it when I got it. I think it is a .045  1 1/4 not sure of the set. Called woodmizer and told them what I would be cutting and they sent me two different blades to try.  Probably use wm Blades till I can sharpen them my self.  Here are some more pictures.

Looking good. Might give Suffolk a call and they will send a low tension blade for free, so you can try that also.

I believe my Baker came with a Lenox blade on it.  I tried the Suffolk blade and didn't really like it.  WM sent me two blades but I haven't had a chance to use them yet.  The mill is tucked away for the winter.  I agree with other post, as long as the sawdust isn't packed and hot, you should be ok.

You may want to check the Suffolk Machine web site they have trouble shooting information that covers sawdust and other issues.
