Does anyone know if you can obtain permission to cut timber on county property the same way one could on state land.  There is a ton of dead standing ash trees in the Acres and Acres of woods behind my house.  I hate to see the wood just rot and fall over.  With all the Ash trees being chipped up and sent into a furnace in Flint, MI for Electrical power, it would be nice to use some for boards.  My family actually owned about 4 acres of the property, but the county forced them to sell a long time ago.  The property is a natural flood plane and also the county ran their major sewer lines through the woods.

I'm sure each county is different, but just curious if anyone has obtianed permission for County owned propery.

Best to check directly with your specific county board or administrator. They might have to put the wood out on bids if there is any value to it or if there are others also interested in it.
