I saw this saw at a lumber company. Does anyone know how the cut it so cleanly. I think it might be a cnc plastma cutter. I hope there is some metal guys in the ff.

Took it to the metal shop that had the cnc plasma cutter. They charged me, If I remember right, 150 bucks to do it.  The guy said if I ever got any more that he could have sold that one a hundred times that week for big bucks.  I didnt tell him what I was thinkin. If I was him, I would have taken the tooth profile and cut the whole saw out.  Those artsy fartsy guys that want to buy that sort of thing would never know the whole thing was cut out. What would it matter? :)

This saw had a bad collar crack and had been retired.

Hi-Country Orange

I wish I would have looked at the saw in my pic closer. I thought it was a two man cut down, but the whole thing may have been cut out. I called a couple cnc guys around here but the biggest they can do is 12"x24". I will keep looking, there has gotta be someone close. Thanks alot Jeff. You have a beautiful Piece. I'll have to top it though.  8) 8) 8) But I don't think I can top you paintings or burnings.

Try to get the "scraps" back and you might be able to use them to make a reverse image of your blade picture.

Don P

Or I wonder if it would be worth having them make knife blanks from the cutouts. I'd bet that is some good steel.

They said they would have clipart that would be close to what I want. I hope so, if not I have to get someone to do some line art. They say that the machine is so fast that they charge by the minute. I will let you know tommorrow. Maybe we can come up with something unique to have done, to auction for the forum.

Took the blade to the shop today..Great guy. Had to show me his new toy, a 60,000 psi water jet metal cutter. What a machine. He said he would have my design done tommorrow and would give me a quote. I'll keep in touch.

Tom, going to keep the pieces for sure. It will be great to do a reverse on another blade...Thanks for the tip. If this guy is reasonably priced I got alot of ideas. I'll let ya know.

check the heating and air conditioning places. some of the bigger ones will have a large table.

IMO water jet is the way to go, the edges will be nice and clean and there will be no distortion from the heat of the plasma arc. The guys in the shop next door to us have 2 machines, it is cool to watch them cut out parts from 6 inch thick aluminum plate. :o

Laser would be my second choice, the company we use has a 6kw machine that will cut 3/4 steel plate and make it look like it was machined.

We are looking into getting a plasma table, we do not need the precision of the water jet or the laser.

The pieces that drop out will probably have the lead in's cut into them which kinds messes them up.  If you're good with a torch you can do it hand held with a plasma too.  Its about 5000$ for a hobby table plus a machine.  I've got a machine good to 5/8's and was gonna get setup but couldn't make a business case for it here in nowhere's ville.
