I am looking at a Stihl saw that is branded as an MS 440. However, it has the old style caps and the decompression button isn't on the top.

Any ideas? Switched badge?

Thanks

Well, yes, that is my guess, smiley_beertoast that it is actually an 044 with an MS 440 badge or top cover. But I'm new to the 044/MS440 and don't know much about the model history. I have an 025, new about 8 years ago and it's a great little saw. Little being the key operative phrase here. Either way, this (whatever) saw looked to be in good condition, well taken care of, so I bought it. I'll see what it actually looks like when it arrives tomorrow, but:

Did the MS440 start out looking just as it does in the current production?

Thanks

I have an MS440 without a decompression button but it did come with the newer caps.  Great saw!

Thanks, I'm looking forward to getting it, should be here tomorrow or Saturday. I think that there are some scared trees out there right now....
