Anyone ever build a mini-solar kiln?  I'm looking to build one simply for drying the four 17" slabs I cut from a gnarly elm log.  The slabs are about 4' long, 1.5" thick and 17 to 18" at their widest point.

I guess I just want this to be a purpose-built thing.  I'm half tempted to make something out of the thick cardboard that my table saw was shipped in.  Kind of a disposable solar kiln 'cause I can guarantee that cardboard will be shot when I'm done!  The log was destined to be firewood so if I ruin it I'm not out anything.

My goal is to build a real one someday, but I'm not at that point yet.  Any thoughts or words of wisdom?

I like the way you think!  It's already insulated and is airtight.  I actually have an old fridge.....unfortunately I shot it full of holes in my youth.  Also, not sure what my neighbors in my subdivision would think of a fridge in my backyard.   :D

Maybe I'll rig something up and see what happens.

Cut a hole for a fan where the most bullet holes are. A can of spray foam will seal all the others. You still have to have air in and air out, so, study what you have and it might just get you by, this time. You SAID it don't hafta be perfect  ::) ::) ::) :D
