Resawing with a wood mizer

Has anyone out there ever used your Woodmizer
or other band mill for that matter to resaw dried 4/4
lumber? If so, how do you do it?  Any ideas are appreciated.
 

Running an 8 foot long board through my 14 inch jet with riser block seems cumbersome.

My idea is to use a short, but wide cant as a platform.
Screw two boards onto the side of the cant  with a gap in the middle,  lock the mill head on my LT15, and start pushing the boards through using a push stick at the end.

Don't know why that wouldn't work, but couldn't you just add some thin boards of the desired thickness to the end of your cant (with side boards) to hold the 4/4 board and then run the saw over it? If you used glue you could saw right through and not have to worry about the screws. Might have to use one of those one-handed quick clamps to hold the board so it doesn't move. I can envision putting one on the far end and removing it before you get there, and adding one to the close end after you've sawed part way.

Just remember this comes from someone who has never sawed a board with a sawmill

  I had a 12 ft kitchen counter top that I used to resaw with till I left it out in the rain last summer.   I put the thing on the bed and cut out for the bed rails and held it in place with the clamp.  I cut a notch out of the back so the blade would be raised up and down.  I clamped vice grips on the rod in front and behind the carrage rollers.  I just added 1 inch for the thickness of the top and could use my scale.  All you had to do was push the boards through and with a helper it went fast.  Use very little water  as it seems to cause the saw dust to expand in the cut and 8 degree blades did better.
  I have been thinking of building a new one from 3/4 pt plywood because I would love to split 4/4 oak again and plane it down to 3/8 for some hobbie guys.

How much resawing are you going to do ???????
woodmizer sell a retro fit kit for their mill mounted resaw....
I used my LT 15 to resaw numerous cants into pallet parts until I purchased a baker PAQ resaw...  I have also used the mill mounted WM resaw w/ a friend on his 88 LT 40 worked great...
We made a jig that clamped on the bed to avoid hittings dogs
and the minimum 1 inch cut blocks.
 Quick clamps work great just remember to remove and replace... The blade goes thru the plastic ones like butter only had to replace 2..... we were resawing 4x cants into 3/8's inch slat wood,spacers for shipping cardboard boxes
 2000 pieces a week....   worked pretty good but was quite slow, got the PAQ and can do log to finish 2000 pieces in 3.5 hours

Did the boards have a tendancy to ride up as you pushed them through?  When Perry was talking about I was thinking that we would need a pressure roller to keep the board securely down on the table.  It certainly would be easier if that wasn't required.

  Most boards went through with out any problems.  There were a few with some twist that we held a finger board against.  When I  build a new one I will mount a perminate finger board on the side.  The blade pulled it to the side and we just pushed it through.

I am not planning on doing much resawing.  Just for my
own projects. So I really don't want to invest much money.
I am thinking about making some wainscoting
boards for my basement. I bought some woodline tongue
and groove  and beading shaper bits recently.  I did about
half of my basement about 5 or 6 years ago from commercially purchased material. (Well before I ever thought
of buying a mill).  Now that I have plenty of lumber available,
I will make my own to finish the project.
The instructions for the bits say for 3/8 to 1/2 inch material.  
You might ask why it is only half finished.  I did enough 5 - 6 years ago to finish off the family room.  Now I want to do the hallways.   Thaks for the input guys

Speaking of beavers,
I got a kick out of the beavers that built a small dam
along the right of way on Illinois Route 6 nw of Peoria
a few years ago.  The right of way was along
the backside of Hoerr Tree Nursery.   I stopped
everynight on the way home from work for about a week to watch them working on the dam.  I only got to watch for
about a week because the IDOT boys eventually tore out the dam.  Yes, I have read the beaver letter.
