MY friend has a fairly new Husky 353.  He has used it maybe a half a dozen times.  He called me today and told me that he could not get it started.   I figured that it must be spark plug so I took a new plug to him at lunch .  We  put it in and nothing, not even a pop.

Any ideas on what to check, etc.          '-

Check for spark at the plug...then...fuel to the plug(see if it is wet with fuel). If spark, and plug not wet, then put a bit of fuel in the cylinder and see if it will kick off...then??

OK it looks like we have no spark.  What would be the next step (iof there is one) we can do ourselves?

First, disconnect the switch wire from the coil then try it. If it sparks, the switch is faulty. If still no go, trundle down to yer friendly neighborhood dealer (with the saw in hand) for a warranty coil replacement. BTW, this is not a common problem but can happen.

Maybe it is flooded, they are a pita to start when they are.......

If it is, pull the plug, dry off what you can, and turn it upside down - let it sit that way for a while, to dry out.

Never more than tree pulls on choke with a 353, and turn it off (in) at the slightest sign that it wants to start - don't count on the decomp valve to tell you.....  ;)

I recently flooded the 5100S also, as i turned it from choke to "off", instead of to "high idle", and kept pulling....... :-[
