Just wanted to share some of our better pictures of  Le Chateau Montebello where this years TFG Eastern Conference was held.  The Chateau has the distinction of being the worlds largest log building.  When newly constructed buildings on the site contained 10,000 logs, 500,000 hand-slit cedar roof shakes and 166 kilometres of wooden moulding.

Wow

I suspect that the pictures just cannot do the craftsmanship justice either.

I believe that includes the stone masons.

Thanks Raphael, those are some great pics. I got to visit it in 85 when I took Pat Wolfes' log building course. It doesn't look like it has changed a bit.

My details may not be totally accurate. In its day the logs that went into the building comprised the longest trainload ever. Travelled from British Columbia to Quebec in one load, they are Douglas Fir.

My sister-in-law was married there a few years ago, so we spent the week-end in the main lodge. I would say it would have to be my favorite hotel to stay in. Blueduck you are right, pictures cannot do it justice. It was built during the great depression as a make work project. my wife spent the week-end just trying to find me as I wandered the grounds and building in awe.
