I used this home made hillbilly tool today. What is it.

Looks like a log splitter to me.

It's  hard to tell from that perspective, but I'd guess you made something to pull a little ditch or maybe to bury a cable.

Tom you need to spend more time up here in Ga. then try to say where to use a thing-a-ma-jig.

Reversed Axe handled Head to use in an Axe throwing contest so no one gets hurt with the pointed side if there is an errant toss. :D

Tom

I know where to use thing-a-ma-jigs, but we don't put deely boppers on them.  Sometimes a wheely deely will fit, but usually we  have to use a thing-a-ma-whopple.

We need a hint. What's it attached to? Is it bigger than a bread box?

Well ,I don't know why I put this in the sawmills board, didn't mean to do that. ::)  Dave got the correct answer. I guess customsawyer is correct also. ;D I got the wild idea of making a firewood splitter, but didn't have a proper hydraulic cylinder or an I beam to make a proper splitter. Being the tight wad hillbilly that I am, I came up with this fast,  but  extremely dangerous wood splitter . I welded two broken bushhog blades on  a 4" x 6" piece of tubing. I then bolted the block to the bottom of the post driver I already owned. I have only used it for two hours and it seems to work better than some of the other home made and handy devises I have made over the years. I found out the hard way if I stand to the side when I drop the wedge on the wood that sometimes the split piecies will fly to side and strike the shin bones. I now stand to the tractor side when splitting.

Now that piece of equipment is twice as valuable, post whomper and wood splitter. 8) ;D

Soooo, no bottom plate to strike against. Haa yes, use very hard ground. Pigman is this pretty quick on the spliting action?

The driver head will raise in about 1 second and will drop in about 1/2 second. The only slow part of the splitting is positionng the wood under the splitter and removing the split piecies. Of course on large piecies I have to split several ways to get wood small enough to fit in the stove. After a few minutes my back is ready for a little rest. I have thought about raising the post driver using the 3 point hitch and splitting on top of a large block of wood. If I do that I will have to lift the large blocks and when the driver drops the big unsplit portion would be knocked to the ground and I would have to pick it up again.
I have found that when I split much wood on the same spot on the ground, the dirt gets all ground up and it is difficult to get the smaller blocks to sit up for splitting. I have tried splitting on a board and it works better until the board breaks or spiits.  I think this thing is almost as dangerous as " The worlds Fasted Splitter" as seen in the video posted on here a while back. ::)

You got one of them Logrite Hookeroons, Bob?  It sure saves a lot of bending and reaching when you're messing with firewood.

pigman

No, DanG. I don't have a Logrite Hookeroon, but I would like to have one. I think they would work fine on the smaller piecies of wood, but I don't think I could lift a two hundred lb block of wood on the end of a hookeroon. I think I wll buy a hookeroon for my wife for Christmas. ;D

That sounds like an excellent plan! 8) 8)  She will be able to roll those 200lb chunks right up to the splitter then tip them into place, and still have the energy to make biscuits for supper. ;D
