hi this might sound stupid but where do you measure the bar size from i/e tip to end or tip to the machine also to any kiwis reading this whats the best type of chain for cutting mack and t tree

Welcome aboard, glad you pulled up a stump. Bar length generally is measured by the cutting area from the front of the spike to the tip. What make and model saw do you have? That will largely determine chain type and size.
