Chris, alot depends, usally you start at cost new cut that in half and go down from their. If he bought them new and their like new 1/2,if he scrounged them off some machine swap somthing if you can.Alot of the stuff we find is worth far more than we pay used.Give him a case of Fosters and some help with it.Frank C.

we dont see alot of logan rolls over here over 12 long by 1 3/4 dia and the prices them are bloody steep $120 ea so i posted this just to see what they are going for over your way $ wise also they are 18  long roller 20 tothe end of the shaft . Im swapping him some milling for them @ $450 a ton refacing old sleepers/ties so for the 25 of them Ill only have to cut 2 to 3 ton at about $60 to $80 ea and ive still got about 200 ton to do for him

Does that price seem fair Frank as it will olny be 4 to 5 hrs work .

thanks Chris

Chris ,have you recut ties before ,the ones I've seen over here are loaded with stones and grit not to mention hardware. Our ties I hate to cut them with a chainsaw let alone a good headsaw. If the sleepers cut well and your mates happy sounds like a fair deal.I don't know the price of logan rolls, mayby some of the outher guys do. Ive  remilled afew sleepers in My time about 500 ton prbly more. a 3500psi preasure washer does the trick if there dirty I used to use it on the log building jobs with Dad to debark pine  redwood and Dfir for the houses and on the little bandmill  I used it to just clean the dirt of the log 1to2 min for a 16' by 18" log used to get Excelent band life.

the thing I hate about handaling sleepers is when you have to take the dog spikes out  >:( but 95% of the time they are allready out because type of gear they use overhere it goes in under the fishplates on both sides of the sleeper  lifts the track spikes and fishplate and spitts the sleeper out from under the track and pushes the newone into place all in one hit its quite impressive to watch.

Thanks Frank
