Does anyone here carve pipes? If so, what is briar like? Is it ever used for anything besides pipes?
LT10G10, Stihl 038 Magnum, many woodworking tools. Currently a farm service applicator, trying to find time to saw!

Yes, I built a chest of drawers out of briar wood last year.  I'll take a picture and post it when I get a chance.

A chest full of ripped up draws maybe.  :D :D

I've not seen briar get over a quarter of an inch in diameter down here.

Yes I figured you were being sarcastic. I guess they use root burls for the pipes.

yes it is the root burl. some beautiful pipes have also been carved from cherry
