I am very impressed by the wealth of information and participation here.  GREAT forum!

This spring I acquired 20 acres in Okanogan County, Washington.  My forestry plan - Created by a professional forester - recommends removal of some fairly large -9 to 22" diameter -  Ponderosa Pine, Western Larch and Douglas fir due to localized Mistletoe infestations.  Since this is a fairly small scale operation my thought was to utilize some of the timber and make lumber for misc projects on the property.

My thought is to fell the trees and perhaps use an Alaska Mill to cut slabs where they lay and haul them out with an ATV or Pickup Truck where possible.

I am also intrigued by the Lil Log Ox (nicholstrailer.com) but don't know if it is practical for the limited amount of logging I intend to do.

Insights?  Recommendations? Clever yarns?  All appreciated in advance!

just from one greenhorn to another. 2 years ago i started sawing my own boards. i browed an alskan from a friend and sawed one log. after buying new chain and a lot of sweal i broke down and got a small band mill. i got a timberking 1220 and have been hooked. i'm building a very large barn and my dad has buildt several small things since i got the mill. as far as moving then logs. if your not sawing them up realy fast then only cut what you need down and get a log arch. the size of the logs will tell you what size you need. logrite builds great ones. and don't foget to get you a cant hook. your going to need it.

what ever you choose to do good luck and keep the old guys around here posted. we love photos of your work.

Welcome to the forum Whit You will get all the help You need here.

I did about 2 years with a carriage type Csm with a 3120 on it from when I was 13yo and cut a power of timber on it  ;D Before I brought a bandsawmill  ;D If you can lashout the coin Id go for a small Band saw for under $6000 as setting up a Csm is going to set You back atleast $2500 as I would not use any saw under 100 cc in size for eficiant sawing . Id get a logging arch for skidding out or if You have a tractor Id just use it it all depends on what You allredy have that You can use .
