Got out my 50 and 54 Cabellas Hawkins last night and cleaned them up, powder looks dry so I think I'm ready!

I really like hunting with these basically traditional guns.

See yall on Monday

I used to hunt with the old side-locks, but a few years ago, I splurged and got a TC Encore in 50  cal.

Our late ML season ended this past Sunday.

It's always a fun time.

Good luck to you!

It was a nice weekend in the mountains. The deer are pretty spooked from regular gun season. I did see a bunch of deer but it was mostly butts running away. We did some target shooting, did I mention I love shooting iron sight cap and ball rifels, spread 300 lb corn and called it a season.

I did get to meet with my forester. We enjoyed a walk through my woods and throuth the old hunting camp woods. I have about an acre that used to be a field years ago and is now filled with mature Yellow Poplars. We are going to re clear that area and another spot where 2 logging roads meet we are going to widen it for a small feedlot, called daylighting.
Normally they would not mess with such a small area but my nieghbor to the south is having a timbering done and the will allready be on site.
The old hunting camp is overdue for a thinning, like 20 years. He explained how a thinning will encourage growth in the remaining trees and be an improovment.

It's never just about hunting which is a good thing, i'd get too bored!
