I have the option to purchase an older Jonsered 910E (20" Bar) that has not seen much use and has been well maintained.  I don't believe this model has a chain break.

Anyway, I plan to use the saw for milling using an Alaskan Chainsaw mill.  Anyone have any experience or opinions on the Jonsered-Model-910E?

According to the CSCC page, it's an 86cc saw that weighs about 15 lbs.

Looks like it does have a chain brake.

One of the last true Jonsereds, with the 510 and 410.

All subsequent ones had more or less Husky and/or Parter designs in the mix.

A good saw in it's day but it is getting long in the tooth. Parts are getting scarce.

still a good saw--parts being the only problem, and they had high chain speed--points die--replace with electronic adam module----they very seldom need anything if taken care off---

Thanks for the feedback, I will likely pick up this saw for about $150 which gives me a chance to try out the Alaskan Mill will a bigger saw. Right now, I'm cutting with a 65 cc Stihl, but would like a little more power (just don't want to spend $1000 on it).  Just need to cut enough planking for decking the floor and roof.

Saw your update of the video's on your Blog site.  Appreciate you keeping us up to date on your project. Must be tough to have to set out the winter and just plan for spring.

Hope the saw works out for you. Wouldn't think a chain brake would be very important on an AK mill. But a sharp chain will.. :)

Beenthere,

Glad the video worked, wasn't sure if it would.   I keep planning work days up at the cabin site; however, with the temperatures runing -5 and -10, I have to call them off.  Way too cold.  If things get a little milder over the holidays, I might get in a day or two.

I had a 920 over 22 years ago and ran it commercially for 2 full years without it needing any major work.  I sold it and it is still being used for firewood.  They are very heavy though.
