Dave, my friend with the sawmill will log the stand in the winter and saw those for the next two summers, and does not have any problems. He trys to mill trees that have been down for a year. Once cut he dry piles the lumber stickered without any cover for a year before planning it. He has a pile of the really big ones that he saves for building logs that he throws a tarp over and keeps them for many years that way. Alberta is considered semi arid. Of course the lake creates its own weather to an extent. The tornado of 87 started right there!

I might see you tomorrow afternoon. If your home.

Dave,
I never had any problem with mold or stain on those tarped Norway Spruce and I had them wraped for 6 months at least. and I am in Muskegon, Michigan and it was not winter. In the log form here it doesnt happen that fast. and in alberta I would think it wouldn't be a problem. Now if it were pine boards in humid summer and I didn't get them stickered right away, then 3 to 4 days they can be blue stained together like they were glued sometimes.

Dave, a grub update - The pine & spruce I've been sawing, the grubs have pretty much stayed in the outer layer of logs. Once I got down into the 40 log pile, they were hard to find. I guess the sawyer beatles are lazy, they like to lay eggs in the logs right on top -  :D   By the time yours get moved, the bark should be lose enough to fall off, that stops any more egg laying. Is it cold up there?  ;D
I was the smartest 16 year old I ever knew.
